How to Become More Productive in the Morning

I made a post about becoming more productive at home and now realize how to become more productive in the morning is a BIG PROBLEM for many people.

I finally read a book called the 5am Miracle, which helped me realize that getting up at a certain hour of the day can change everything when it comes to your daily productivity.

Early Risers Are Less Distracted

Think about it. If you can rise around 5 am, who else is up at that time? Not many others. Just by getting up earlier than most people, you are already ahead of the game. Why? Because you can immediately start getting an important task done before the phone starts ringing or emails start flooding your inbox.

In addition, your mind isn’t cluttered yet with daily activities. Your mind is free to concentrate on something immediately. I recommend working on something very important as soon as you wake up because this may be your most productive part of the day.

Complete a Task Immediately Upon Waking Up

Here’s a secret. Try working on an important task as soon as you roll out of bed. Don’t eat, don’t exercise, and don’t meditate. If you can immediately get something significant finished when you roll out of bed, you will already have momentum and a sense of accomplishment.

This will provide motivation for the rest of your day.

Meditation or Prayer in the Morning

When you sit in silence, you are allowing creativity to bubble up from your depths.

Silent time in the morning helps clarify and simplify your course forward. Life is not as intimidating after you pray or meditate.

This helps you become more productive because you are less likely to procrastinate if you are serene and present.

Exercise in the Morning Provides Energy

I do a 4 minute workout, which you can find here.

Perhaps, you could take a 30 minute walk or run around the neighborhood? Studies show that people who exercise early also workout consistently.  For you, how to become more productive in the morning may just be about getting an early workout.

Once you get the blood flowing early, you will find it much easier to get things done efficiently in the morning. Doing any kind of aerobic activity changes your chemical composition. It boosts tryptophan in the brain, which aides in the production of serotonin.

A Green Smoothie in the Morning

For years, I’ve been drinking a simple green smoothie in the morning. This provides super nutrients on an empty stomach after sleeping for hours. This and water are the best items you can consume in the morning upon waking up.

My recipe is simple: a little unsweetened almond milk, some frozen organic blueberries, a quarter of banana, and fill the rest of the blender with organic kale or spinach. That’s it. Talk about an energy boost!

Write Down Your Daily Goals and Learn How to Become More Productive in the Morning

Before you go to bed, write down your daily goals for the next day. This is a powerful habit because it eliminates confusion upon waking up.

You wake up and simply look at your list to get started immediately. Otherwise, you could spend a lot of extra thought trying to decide what direction to take for the day.

You can prioritize these tasks quickly the day before and have a “ready” to-do list upon waking up.

In addition, there is another benefit to preparing your daily tasks for the next day. Solutions to your current tasks may come to you while you sleep. The subconscious works on items you are thinking about as you fall asleep.

This list should help answer how to become more productive in the morning. Out of the many methods I’ve tested during morning time, I find these some of the most productive methods.

You may need to juggle the order of these items or experiment with other routines before you find a sweet spot for morning productivity.

There are some people who accomplish more in a couple of morning hours than average people accomplish in a whole day!

This is your time to attack priorities and launch yourself for the rest of the day. Let me know if you have any other tips, which work for you.

Have You Taken 5 Steps to Transform Yourself?

brain with words retrain your mind

These 5 steps to transform yourself are essential to achieve goals you never thought were possible. We have to “warm ourselves up”, so to speak, before we can really change. That’s why the order of steps is important when considering how to transform our relationship to the outer world and ourselves.

1. Observing Yourself From a Distance

Have you ever tried stepping back and looking down upon yourself interacting with someone or just understanding your current position in life? I first discovered this suggestion through a book by Emmet Fox.

Basically, your perspective is often distorted and you may need some space to grasp the reality of a situation. It’s almost the same as unloading a problem onto a friend and that friend provides you an insight because he/she is detached from the situation.

2. Let Go

Similar to stepping back and observing the self, “let go and let God” is a popular phrase in many circles. You have to develop a certain trust in the Universe that situations and your life will turn out o.k. in the end.

Often, our straining and compulsion to control our world defeats us from reaping the benefits in an orderly, spiritual universe. If you notice yourself trying to control someone or a situation, try to emotionally detach and say, “I’m letting go of this situation.” See what happens with this new practice.

3. Saying Yes to Yourself

You say yes to yourself now because you love yourself. That is the place where you can find yourself. Practice saying, “yes, this is true for me”. What is true for you? What do you really love in life? What really interests you? Accept that and run with it. Stop being afraid to accept yourself, your desires, and your loves in life.

You are attracted to certain things for a reason. God made you that way so accept it and accept yourself. Appreciate the uniqueness, which you bring to the world and utilize that uniqueness.

4. Taking Action

Nothing happens without taking action. If you have done the previous steps thoroughly, you have digested some truths about yourself and you have come to a new level of acceptance and empowerment!

When you begin to love and accept yourself on a deep level, all kinds of majestic things start happening and NOW when you start taking some action in directions that previously scared you, faith and confidence will accompany you allowing you to complete the job. In the past, you may have sabotaged yourself after taking action because deep down you didn’t believe you deserved success or positive change. That’s why the previous step of total self acceptance and letting go of negativity are powerful and create space for future transformation.

5. Your Accountability System

You must have an accountability system and that means surrounding yourself with people who stretch you and want the best for you. In addition, why not surround yourself with people who already possess the qualities you desire? How do they act? What do they read? What do they eat? Hang around them and start doing what they do…It’s true that birds of a feather flock together so become part of your flock.

Yes, a COACH is absolutely a powerful way to set up an accountability system. Here are some testimonials of clients who worked with me. It’s common sense that a good Coaching program is a way for you to check-in, discuss possibilities, and allow yourself to STRETCH beyond what you think is possible.

I can’t tell you how many people I see, including myself in the past, who never go beyond their circle of comfort. Fear prevents them from taking one courageous step and they remain mired in mediocrity the rest of their lives.

Will you be different?

Remember, to transform yourself, you must: observe yourself, let go, say yes to yourself, take action, and then lock in the transformation with an accountability system!

You take these steps in this order and you WILL transform. You now have the groundwork laid out before you…what are you going to do with it?

There is only one time. I mean really, in a scientific reality sense, there is only NOW. You can take action right now. Just take one small baby step and the dominos will begin to fall in your favor…

Here are 8 ways you can become more productive working at home. I use these techniques all the time. You need to stay cognizant of outside and inner distractions, which are trying to derail from succeeding at the most important things in life. Working from home can be an amazingly productive time if you set the right conditions and don’t allow yourself to be overcome by the myriad of outside influences fighting for the attention of your eyeballs and ears!

1. Clear the Clutter from Your Desk

You physical work environment should be very comfortable and clutter free when you begin to work.  Louise Hay reminded me that a cluttered home or work environment is a sign of a cluttered mind. You need space to relax and focus on the most important work items in your life.

2. Surround Yourself with Beauty

Studies are showing, unsurprisingly, that our surrounding environment has a direct impact on our inner state and ability to concentrate when at work. How does your workspace currently present itself? What colors make you comfortable? Do you like being around plants? These are just a few points to consider when designing your work environment.

3. Classical or Ambient Music can Help you Concentrate

I use the Focus@Will app to play music, which has scientifically been proven to help concentration levels. People with ADHD have been tested to see, which sounds and music help them focus and these have been incorporated into the Focus@Will app. Baroque classical music has long been known to help people focus and get tasks completed.

4. Get a Pair of Noise Cancelling Headphones

These Sony Headphones are one of the best purchases I’ve ever made for myself. I was initially hesitant about paying around 350.00 for headphones, but now I’ve shown them to all of my family and friends. Imagine yourself being in a coffee shop with your computer and pushing a button on your headphone that cancels out surrounding noise. It is amazing! This is especially true if you’re very sensitive to noise like I am.

5. Simplify your Task List

Distractions at home can be prevalent so make sure your task list isn’t too long or your may not get started on anything! Work on simplifying to 5 tasks or less when deciding what to do for the day. Remember, it’s o.k. to only complete one task as long as that one task is truly important and gets you closer to your goal.

6. Turn Over Your Cell Phone and Silence It

When you around about to perform a task like answering email or calling a customer, silence your cell phone and turn it over so you don’t even see the screen. Remember there are many forces of advertising that are working through your cell phone to keep you distracted from YOUR life goals. Your phone can prevent you from achieving great things in life. It is a TOOL that YOU need to control. Don’t let it control you. Turn it off and put it away once you start on your tasks and practice not looking at it for longer periods of time.

7. Take a Walk During Your Break

While working from home, take advantage of your neighborhood and get a 30 minute walk or exercise period after a main task is completed. Your walk is your reward for completing a task. This bit of exercise will rejuvenate you and give you a pep to continue working when you arrive back at home.

8. Start Work Immediately When Awaking

This might be the most impactful tip on this list to become more productive from home. When you awake, don’t meditate, pray, or exercise. Try to immediately go to your desk and complete one important task. Tell yourself that your reward for completing this task is your normal morning routine such as eating, praying, meditating, or working out. Just imagine how much more you will accomplish when starting something important the second you get out of bed. This is a habit in process that ensures you become a productivity machine by completing tasks FIRST and then rewarding yourself later.  Becoming more productive in the morning is a huge benefit!  Try it and let me know!

Hopefully these techniques can help you become a productivity machines while working from home or anywhere such as a coffee shop or a cruise ship!
